from Mar 18, 2020 we experienced Movement Control Order (MCO), an initiative implemented by the government of Malaysia. This was a preventive measure to restrict public mobility in response to the Covid-19 pandemic to prevent a larger scale of transmission. Overnight the activities we took for granted had been curtailed. Today is May 15. Almost 2 months. Buzz words like “social distancing”, “the new normal”, “work from home”, “online conferencing” are frequently used in every day conversations.
Human work & social behavior has been modified and will continue to be as we all have to adapt to this new challenge.
The office work force and their work space in now a stage of change as well. Companies are doing their part to adapt to the revised Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) in order to function once more. The office work team is now being redefined. So is the work space. Some of the team will be operating on staggered work days in the office space to create better staff social distancing at the work place. Some will be asked to work from home ( or off-site ) and others will be ask to leave or retrenched.
Whatever the scenario, the office space usage will now be changed or modified. Besides the standard SOP of ensuring that minimum entry requirements such as : scanning a staff member at office entrance with a hand held thermometer to ensure that one does not have a fever, having a face mask on and supply of hand sanitizer on hand, there could be new office protocols to be observe. One such example would be a “6 feet office prototype” to ease the concerns of the office work force.
Work From Home (WFH) is an option that is gaining momentum and is here to stay, but will not be the only solution for all businesses. As such it is time for me as a Real Estate Negotiator to play my part to my prospects and clients to assist them to adapt to the changes that are here.
